All was quiet in the clear peaceful night as Luna's moon slowly moved across the sky, bathing everything in a cold light. Downwards from the sky sat the small town of Ponyville; all lights were off and an incredible calmness reigned the streets. Some party animals were still awake and were gathered in an underground basement, which was used as a night club. But there was another particular building that's more of our interest.

Trixie woke up for the fourth time that night. Sitting up and lifting a cracked mirror up to her face, she wondered why she even bothered anymore.

It isn't like anypony cares...

Groggily lifting herself out of bed, onto the rickety floor, she plodded over to the creaky door and slowly pushed it open, letting the crisp night air toy with her untidy mane. After standing in the doorway for a moment, Trixie abandoned all thoughts of attempting to get more sleep and walked towards a nearby tree.

Learning to Smile

I was a child of stones
A daughter of the rock farmers
No joy was known there
But gloom and endless working

Under the hot, blazing sun
The barren fields, all without green
Granites were our flowers
Our grass made of sand and gravel

I breathed the choking air on the wordless world
I walked on soil bare of seeds…

In a poor family among rocks
A child was born with a bright mane
Pink coat in colorless home
Such a punchline in a grey world

Gathered rocks in silence
Aching hooves our pay for a hard work
Dust on my eyes and throat
I dreamed of world out of my life

I breathed the choking air on the wordless world
I walked on soil bare of seeds
Throughout the days I gazed repressed at hollow skies
A solace for indifference…

The tremor passed over our farm
In colors of rainbow light
Broke through the woods and mountains
Shaking me to the core

The spectrum of light piercing my heart
Woke me to see beauty in life
Encouraging me to shine
Open my heart and smile

Passing the wave I shared my smile
I kindled my first delight
A party to lighten our home
Comfort in hard working days

With spectrum of light I found my path
I learned to smile, sow seeds of joy
To evoke fun in laughless lives
To color the world of stone… with smiles

Once again, my inner Pinkie fanboy says this is my favorite part. Come forth, as our favorite party pony recites us her tale of how Equestria was made!

This poem has some pretentious allusions which made writing this both fitting and fun. It’s based on a song named “Beginning of Time”, which alone should ring some bells regarding Pinkie’s cutie mark tale. That’s also why it was “naturally” placed as the final poem in the series. The final phrase closes the saga fitting with the theme and referencing the episode, and finally, the thumbnail is shaped like an egg similarly to the cover of eponymous “The Beginning of Times” album.
