Where We Once Cantered

I'm watching the timeline
The tokens left of those days
There once was a time when
I still resembled myself
In those pictures

Younger me once sew
The blanket on which
Older me now sleeps
Drifts in the past

Where we once cantered
We had no fears, we had no cares
There we once cantered
When we were young, me and my friends

I've lived a full life
I've reaped and sown my own share
Cradle of children
Harvest born of first seeds

I remember how I saw them bloom
Grow full of life
And how they faded away
Left in the fields

Where we once cantered
We had no fears, we had no cares
There we once cantered
When we were young, me and my friends

I am the line that's ending
I can now depart smiling
Wait for me one last moment
I'm on my way back to you

Where we once cantered
We felt no fear, we had no cares
There we now canter
When we are gone, me and my friends

There we're together
And fear nevermore...

LISTEN THIS SONG WITH THE POEM FOR MAXIMIZED EXPERIENCE [link]

While looking for new stuff, I thought that the solo material of Tarja Turunen could provide some nice background music... and there it was. “I Feel Immortal”. Damn it's beautiful.

This poem had a complicated writing process. Originally I thought of some sort of an “old mane six” theme, where they’d reminisce their past lives and adventures before departing on the one final journey. Very sad, morbid even, but I didn’t get the theme flow and while the chorus and title stayed the same I had trouble with what exactly to write in the verses.

Then I thought of switching the focus character into Granny Smith; an already established, already old character with familial ties and a backstory. Worked well, but then I couldn’t find anything melancholic enough for a thumbnail. So I made it myself, for once.

Song is used as a soundtrack for the lyrical content in terms of tribute, homage, parody and ponies.
